Awkwafina
Awkwafina began as an American performer and rapper, releasing sly tracks that tackled questions of race and sexual identity with a comedic twist. Prior to her move into Hollywood, she could make a few songs. Nora Lum, born in Forest Hills Queens to Chinese and Korean immigrants, was her first musical encounter. She performed on the trumpet. In addition to classical and jazz, the young Nora started to study hip-hop during her teens. In college, she focused on her studies. She took up a degree in women's studies as well as journalism. While she was for a brief amount of time, in Beijing, Mandarin language classes were also offered. The focus on music until after she graduated. In 2012, My Vag (as a retort to Mickey Avalon's My Dick) became an internet sensation and featured on her debut album Yellow Ranger. It also contained popular hits that went viral, such as body positive Queef or the winking city tour NYC Bitche$. The latter track connected directly to another project, Awkwafina's NYC Travel Guide, which was published in 2015. Following a career that was successful as a singer and songwriter, she chose to assume the role of actor. Apart from the early television shows like Girl Code and Tawk, she has also been featured in films like Neighbors2Storks as well as Bad Rap. In the year 2018, she was offered a number of breakthrough roles, such as Dude Ocean's Eight or Crazy Rich Asians. It was in June that she released In Fina We Trust.
